Reading Together: 3 Tips for Making it Fun and Engaging

Updated: Apr 23, 2023

As of mom with two toddlers, I understand that sometimes, it can be tough to get kids to sit down and focus on a book. Here are 3 tips to make reading time a fun and engaging experience for both you and your child.

Make it Interactive One way to make reading time more engaging is to get interactive with it. Encourage your child to ask questions about the story, or ask them to predict what might happen next. You can also try acting out different scenes, or even making up your own story together. By actively involving your child in the reading process, you're making it a more immersive experience that they're sure to enjoy.

Choose Age-Appropriate Books Another important factor in making reading time fun is choosing books that are appropriate for your child's age and reading level. If the book is too advanced or too simple, your child might lose interest quickly. Take the time to find books that are just right for your child's developmental stage.

Make it a Routine Consistency is key when it comes to making reading time a fun and engaging part of your child's day. Try to set aside a specific time each day for reading, whether it's before bed or right after breakfast. By making it a part of your daily routine, your child will come to expect and look forward to reading time each day.

Reading together with your child can be a wonderful bonding experience, but it can also be a challenge. By making it interactive, choosing age-appropriate books, and making it a routine, you can help make reading time a fun and engaging experience for both you and your child.

So grab a book and get started!
